Far from the crowds of Northern Tanzania lies Katavi National Park, a hidden gem offering one of the most authentic and wild safari experiences in Africa. This 6-day safari is ideal for seasoned travelers, photographers, or anyone looking to immerse themselves in the purest form of African wilderness — where hippos battle in shrinking pools and elephants roam vast floodplains without tourist traffic.
After breakfast or arrival in Arusha, you’ll board a scheduled bush flight to Katavi National Park (via Tabora or Mbeya). Upon landing at the airstrip, your guide will transfer you to your remote wilderness lodge or camp. Enjoy lunch and an afternoon game drive in Katavi’s wide-open landscapes.
Spend four days immersed in the beauty and drama of Katavi. Game drives take you across floodplains, acacia woodlands, and seasonal rivers teeming with crocodiles and hundreds of hippos. The park offers one of the highest concentrations of large mammals in East Africa — with lions, herds of buffalo, giraffes, elephants, leopards, hyenas, and rare roan antelope roaming free.
Spend the afternoon spotting lions, cheetahs, elephants, and — if your timing is right — herds of wildebeest and zebras on the move.
Enjoy a full-day game drive with picnic lunch inside the park, then head to your lodge near the park for dinner and overnight stay.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the scenic spots inside the crater before ascending to the rim and returning to your lodge in Karatu for the night.
Visit Ngurdoto Crater Viewpoint, and end the day with a visit to Tululusia Waterfall — a hidden gem in the forest.
Highlights: Giraffes on foot, birds, waterfalls, crater views, bushwalk
Enjoy a final morning game drive or bush walk before breakfast. Afterward, transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled return flight to Arusha, arriving by late afternoon. Connect to your international flight or continue with another safari or beach extension.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush or return to camp for a hot meal before heading back out for an afternoon game drive.
After your safari, drive to your lodge in Karatu for a relaxed evening.
Return to Arusha in the afternoon for your onward flight or next safari destination.
